Day 1
We kicked off at 7.30 with some breakfast and settled in to what was going to be a fantastic day of learning. First up was Jim Hardy who welcomed us all here and set out what we would be doing over the next 3 days. Jim then went on to say how pleased he was that we were here before outlining where he saw The Plane Truth going. What was so pleasing is the amount of talented teachers and coaches that were in attendance all willing to share ideas so that we can give better instruction.
The golf swing can be off plane in one of two directions. Either it is too steep and too narrow or it is too wide and too shallow and that is what our teaching is all about. Correcting impact and making it repetitive is what we do. The method employed doesn't matter as long as it repeats. Jim said "I like to find my ball after I hit it! I don't really care what my swing looks like." As certified instructors we are here to help our students through the minefield of information that is out there, organize it and apply it to suit that student.
Mike Crisanti was up next showing us the Matrix version 2.0. I have been using the version 1.0 for 6 months and I can say that version 2.0 is faster, easier to navigate, use and more eye-catching. Any Certified Instructor will be able to get the correct information to you quicker and easier if you have the technology at your facility. Good news for any students out there is there will be a consumer version of the matrix coming soon so that you will be able to manage your game with your instructor.
After a short break, a Level 3 Instructor panel discussion took place and we got an insight into who and how they teach. All the Level 3 Instructors can play well. But not all good players are or become good teachers but all good teachers should be able to demonstrate.
After lunch all attendees received a lesson from one of the Level 3 coaches followed by a 9 hole 'Pink' ball competition which was really enjoyable. I would like to thank my playing partners, Randy, Martin and Tom for a really fun game.
Dinner followed and then we had the pleasure of the Champions Tour panel discussion. We were really fortunate to get an insight to life as a Touring Professional and what makes them tick, what they expect from an Instructor, where do they get their best practice done, what runs through a top tour players mind when he is teeing it up in the final round of a major and how does he cope with the pressure that goes along with that. As a whole group we would like to thank Olin Browne, Bob Tway and Don Pooley for sharing their experiences with us and I hope they enjoyed their time with us as much as we enjoyed listening and learning from them.
So it's on to day 2 with another fun filled day of which I hope to report back to you asap.
Until then, play well!
Duncan.
