PGA Class A Professional
Level 3 Plane Truth Certified Instructor

Teaching golf is Mike LaBauve’s passion and has been for 30 years.  He is currently the Director of Instruction at the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona.  He has a clientele from all around the world that comes to take private and small group instruction.  He also conducts seminars and golf schools with Jim Hardy and The Plane Truth team.  He is one of only 5 Level 3 Instructors.

Mike got his start in golf instruction with his father-in law, Jack Lumpkin, a long time Golf Digest instructor and PGA National Teacher of the Year.  Mike worked in a number of Golf Digest Schools and also worked 3 years with Hank Haney in the Pinehurst Golf Advantage Schools.

It was Hank who introduced Mike to Jim Hardy in 1982.  While learning Jim Hardy’s teaching methods, Mike’s golf game made a drastic turnaround.  He was blessed with a great short game, but his full swing faltered under pressure.   Jim Hardy did some magic.  Mike became Player of the Year in the Southwest Section of the PGA and played in a number of PGA Tour events.  Mike recognizes the changes necessary to play championship golf and he is driven to help all students play to a top level.

Mike currently works with PGA Tour players Jeff Quinney and Bryce Molder,  Nationwide winner, Rich Barcelo and Doug LaBelle,  LPGA Tour player Grace Park and 3-time college Player of the Year Amanda Blumenhurst.  He has multiple winners on the Gateway Tour and a number of College stars including Cheyenne Woods and a daughter, Lindy who plays for LSU.  He has coached a PGA Rookie of the Year, a PGA Comeback Player and an LPGA Comeback Player.

In 1991, Mike went to work full time with the Golf Digest Schools.  LaBauve has frequently been seen on the cover of the magazine and has written countless articles for Golf Digest and Golf Magazine.  He has been in the Golf Digest Top 50 and the Golf Magazine Top 100 Instructors since inception.  You can also see his popular internet tips on Golflink.com.

Married for 28 yrs to Sandy LaBauve, another Plane Truth Level Three Instructor, Mike has two daughters that enjoy the game.  Mike continues to share his love for the game with students, fellow professionals and family alike.

I believe that every golfer can improve their game and their real enjoyment of the greatest game ever invented. I really enjoys the challenge of helping you to be the best that you can be. It is this belief that has enabled me to be lucky enough to be a highly sought instructor from all over the UK for my philosophy of the game and instruction on the swing.

My passion is to help any golfer with the desire to improve. My students improve and have fun with the learning process.

The Braintree Staff

The teaching staff at The Academy at Braintree Golf Club is comprised of some of the finest golf instructors. These instructors train beginners, amateurs and professionals alike in the proven fundamentals that have made Duncan an Advanced PGA Professional. Duncan and the other Teaching Staff use sophisticated digital video analysis in their one-on-one teaching sessions. They will work with you on every aspect of the swing to improve power, accuracy and consistency. The short game of chipping, pitching, sand shots and putting is strongly emphasized to help everyone lower their scores. To develop a complete player, all the mental aspects and course management skills are emphasized with every golfer as well as the physical.

As a student progresses through their programme, Duncan instructs them on how to understand what their swing is doing by analysing the ball flight which is really the cornerstone to becoming your own best teacher. Each student learns how to practice, how to play the golf course, how to analyse your game to find the areas that need the most improvement, and most importantly how to think and act like a champion.

Duncan Woolger and the other Teaching Professionals are dedicated to introducing as many people as possible to the game of golf and helping them play their best. We look forward to seeing you at The Academy at Braintree Golf Club.

My passion and desire for teaching this great game has exposed me to some of the most influencial instructors in golf but there is one man who I would class head and shoulders above everybody. Jim Hardy has the most incredible mind for the game and in time, the teaching world will owe him a huge debt of gratitude. Since discovering the Plane Truth and the unbelievable differences between one and two plane swings, I feel I can help golfers more effectively and deliver faster results to their games.

John Jacobs stated that, "The sole purpose of a golf swing is to produce a correct repetitive impact. The method employed is of little significance as long as it is repetitive." This along with Jim's words of wisdom enables me to improve any golfer's ball flight almost immediately. The golf ball doesn't lie and helping students understand their impact and ball flight tendencies makes the game even more pleasurable.

After caddying on the LPGA tour for 10 years, I have spent the last 15 concentrating on teaching all skill levels of players.  Here is what I think is important:

1)  People learn in different ways- visual, kinesthetic and verbal.  The key is to tap into someone's learning style to help him or her learn faster.

2)  I always work with where the student is and balance both sides of the golf swing- there is not one mold to put you in.

3)  If I have to, I'll find new and creative ways to get the student to understand and feel the modifications.

4)  I never stop learning to bring you the best and simplest ways to take you where you want to go with your golf game.

My journey as a Plane Truth Certified Instructor began as a struggling golf pro in desperate need of help for his own game - desperate enough to begin searching the internet for some magic pill to cure a golf swing that I felt had gone completely awry. It was in one of these frantic moments online that I found excerpts of Jim Hardy's original article published in Golf Digest outlining the differing fundamentals of One and Two Plane swings.

As a golf instructor, I had long since realized that no two golf swings looked alike. Johnny Miller looked nothing like Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklas couldn't be more dissimilar , and Lee Trevino and Raymond Floyd just seemed to do whatever worked for them; conventional wisdom be darned. Although I had this information available, saw it with my own eyes, I did not understand what these players were doing to make these different swings work. And so I taught, as most golf instructors unfortunately still do, the swing that worked for me. It was a swing comprised of the predominate instruction available at the time; take the club straight back, cock the wrists, lift the arms, drop the club into the slot on the way down, release the club at the bottom, and finish high - to put it succinctly.

It wasn't until after I read Jim's article on the internet that the light bulb came on, that I finally understood why half of my students came back excited about their progress and the other half thought they must still be doing something wrong. I was the quintessential golf instructor - able to help about half of my students. After slapping my forehead and uttering Homer Simpson's famous catch phrase ("DOH!"), I realized that I needed to learn everything I could about the myriad ways to swing a golf club.

I began with Jim's books, progressed to his seminar, and excitedly signed up for the first Level 1 certification program. Along the way my ability as an instructor improved exponentially. I was always capable of seeing the player who raised up, who threw the club from the top, who fell back onto their back foot or many other mistakes golfers make, but now, for the first time, I understand why they make these mistakes and the best way to fix them. I am happy to say that the number of students reporting back to me excited about their progress has nearly doubled since beginning my tutelage under Jim.

To this day, I continue to learn new drills, new teaching techniques, new faults and fixes and my passion for teaching the game continues to grow. I am thrilled to be a part of Jim's growing certification program and as a Level Two Certified Instructor feel confident in my ability to help golfers of any experience level hit the ball better!

I am currently the Head Golf Professional at The Cliffs Resort on Possum Kingdom Lake about an hour and 1/2 drive from the DFW Metro-Plex. I offer a variety of one and two day lesson packages taking advantage of the hotel accommodations on site.

instructor who has taught two LPGA Hall of Fame players. Her playing
experience brings to her teaching a special understanding of what it takes
to play good golf. The Plane Truth has allowed Cindy to help golfers with
all types of swings much quicker than before her affiliation with Jim Hardy.
Allowing for the student’s individuality and understanding more clearly
that one or two fixes is all it takes has made improvement much easier and
quicker to accomplish in helping her clients.

Tom found the game of golf at the age of 15 through his golf mad father; this is after playing many other sports including American Football, soccer and Basketball.

From the start Tom had some great help with his game with the world famous golf coach Peter Cowen and by the age of 18 he had represented England Schools in the home internationals.

After leaving school there was only one industry Tom wanted to work in, and found his love for golf tuition while working at The Gleneagles Hotel Golf Academy, in Scotland. 5 years of training at Gleneagles gave Tom a solid start to his coaching career but he always know something was missing in his coaching.

Tom moved onto Queenwood Golf Club in London and it was here where he had the chance to play regularly and watch practice world golfing stars Darren Clarke, Thomas Bjorn, David Howell, Paul Mcginley, Adam Scott and Erine Els.  He also discovered Jim Hardy and the Plane Truth and has never looked back.

In 2009 Tom became the Head Professional at Rockliffe Hall, a new 50 million pound Hotel, Golf and Spa complex in the north east of England, which not only has a 7,900 yard championship golf course, but also a state of the art Golf Academy.

With Tom now been a proud member of the Plane Truth Family he is looking forward to passing on Jim’s world leading knowledge and help his golfers enjoy the game of golf as much as he has since discovering the Plane Truth.

Bernie Najar is the PGA Director of Instruction at Caves Valley Golf Club in Baltimore, Maryland.  Since Bernie’s start in the golf business in 1994, his goal has been to promote the game of golf through his instruction services.  Throughout his career, Bernie has spent a great deal time learning to improve his game and refine his teaching philosophy by spending time with game’s top instructors.  Some of the teachers Bernie has spent time with and observed teach include David Leadbetter, Jim McLean, Mac O’Grady, Wayne DeFrancesco, Mike Bender, Bob Toski, Jim Flick, Mike Malaska, Jim Hardy, Mike Labauve, Rick Sellers, Mike Bennett, Andy Plummer, and Chris O’Connell.

Another influence on Bernie’s teaching philosophy has been studying his database of tour swings of the top PGA, LPGA, and CHAMPIONS TOUR players.  Bernie’s database consists of film that Bernie has personally taken at numerous tour events and footage of the game’s all time greats that he has compiled over the years.

Along with this, Bernie spends a great deal of time learning how the body works in the swing by spending time with some of the top fitness and treatment professionals in the golf industry.  From these experiences, Bernie has a number of ways to screen his students for motion patterns that influence how they can move their body during the swing.

Since 1994, Bernie has taught over 30,000 lessons to a wide range of golfers.  From beginners, to aspiring tour professionals Bernie feels very fortunate to have worked with so many wonderful people over the years.  Through these many experiences, Bernie has developed a passion to help golfers of all abilities.  Bernie was named the 2004 Middle Atlantic PGA Teacher of the Year, and has been recognized by Golf Digest and Golf Magazine as a top instructor in Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Bernie offers a great number of programs to help you with your game.  For more information, or to schedule a lesson please visit Bernie’s website at www.parsavers.com.  When you visit his site, be sure to check out his newsletter on the home page that features his “2009 Student’s Accomplishments” and the “Learning Technology” he uses during lessons.  Lastly, be sure to register on his site to view his “Video Vault” that has tips and drills to help you with your game.

My philosophy is to participate in the vision the student has for himself as a golfer. Throughout the learning process, I never lose sight of the fact that golf is a game and the reason we all play it is to have fun. Whether it is a junior golfer looking to play college golf, a college golfer looking to play on the PGA or LPGA tour, a weekend golfer trying to lower his handicap, a struggling golfer looking not to embarrass himself in front of his friends or clients, or a beginner golfer looking to get the ball in the air, my goal is to help the student improve and have fun in the process. A student once told me that he looked at his lessons with me as a treat. That comment put a smile on my face. Throughout the learning process, I plan on putting a smile on my student's face as well.

Before the learning process starts, I want to know what the student is looking to accomplish in the short and long term. Once I learn this, I am on a mission to help him achieve that goal. Initially, I actually become the student because I need to learn what he wants, what concepts or misconceptions he may have about the golf swing, and how he learns. Once I learn this, I help him find his way to better golf in a simple, logical and enjoyable manner. I ask my students for feedback all the time in order to improve my instruction skills. A successful teacher is actually a great listener and learner. My students teach me how to teach them.

Simon came to golf at the age of 14 through his grandfather, playing golf in Welwyn Garden City. He moved to the New Forest where he joined his first club and started playing seriously. At the age of 18 Simon had reduced his handicap to 3 where he found his first job in golf.

Having enjoyed 5 years of playing at a Professional level, Simon turned his attention to helping others enjoy their golf. With the help of many well respected coaches including John Jacobs, John Stirling and David Miller, Simon found a real passion for teaching and became a Hampshire County Coach by the age of 25.

In 2009 Simon joined Alresford Golf Club. Alresford has enjoyed 120 years of golf and has seen new developments in recent years with the introduction of new practice facilities including, lesson tee, large short game area, putting green, Pitching area and academy course. Alresford now has undoubtedly the finest practice facilities in Hampshire.

In 2010 Simon became certified as a Level 1 Plane Truth Instructor.

TomO'Brien2 Photo(281) 859-8188Head Golf ProfessionalBear Creek Golf Club 16001 Clay Rd HoustonTexas77084

Tom O’Brien Jr. is a Golf Professional at Bear Creek Golf Club and has been teaching golf professionally since 1999.  He has been a recognized teacher by the PGA tour since 2002 and a member of the PGA of America since 2003.  Tom has instructed former Nationwide Tour Player Victor Schwamkrug from 2001 to 2004 and has written articles for Texas Golfer Magazine and Golf Houston Magazine.

Tom’s basis began under Golf Magazine Top 100 instructor Jim Murphy of Sugar Land ( Jim grew up at the club Jim Hardy was the head golf professional at in Highland Park, Illinois).  In 2004 Jim Murphy introduced Tom to Jim Hardy; since that time Jim has helped Tom with his game and taught him many of the truths about teaching the game.  Tom has taken several personal lessons with Jim and has taken two of the certification clinics Jim has offered in the last few years to PGA Professionals prior to the recent certification programs.  Tom has also been privileged to watch Jim teach at the south Texas tour stops since 2006.  In 2005, Jim Hardy introduced Tom to Stan Utley and since that time Tom has become well versed in short game fundamentals Stan teaches through a couple of personal lessons from Stan and from going over Stan’s books and videos.  Recently Tom has become a certified instructor with AimPoint Golf which is the Emmy award winning company that does all the green reading illustrations for CBS golf and the Golf Channel.

Tom’s goal as a teacher was to seek out the best instructors at all facets of the game (to improve personally and as a teacher!) in order to be as complete a teacher as possible; to really help someone improve their whole game so they can lower their scores and handicaps.  Low scores are everyone’s ultimate goal and a teacher can’t be one sided if he or she is going to do that for a multitude of players at all different levels.

Tom has been a Houston resident for 33 years and has had the privilege of working at Brae-Burn C.C., Bentwater Country Club, The Training Station, Redstone Golf Club, Sugar Creek C.C. and Comanche Trace Golf Club.  Tom is the proud father of five little girls (Emily, Caroline, Abigail, Elizabeth, and Sarah) and has been married to his wife Catherine since November of 2000.

Kevin began playing golf at the age of fifteen and was awarded his first handicap of 10 at sixteen years old.  He reduced this to 2 in six months and began working as a Trainee Golf Professional at Portsmouth Golf Club. He then moved to The Roehampton Club in 1994 and worked under Alan Scott, an England International and Head Professional.  In 1996 he moved to Furzeley Golf Course and became heavily involved in coaching.  It wasn’t until he moved to Alresford Golf Club and was guided by Malcolm Scott, Chairman to the Hampshire PGA, that he realised his full potential and began writing newspaper articles and concentrating more on coaching other golfers.  Kevin played on the Hampshire and South region circuit for ten years.  He now concentrates on helping others reach their full potential as players.

Kevin has been selected by the PGA of Europe as a golf development consultant and is a PGA Advanced Professional.  He has recently become a Level Two certified golf coach. He teaches the Hampshire county players and is the Head Professional at Tournerbury Golf Centre on the south coast of England.

Golf was always my biggest passion and after the birth of my second son (now they are 3..!) I decided to go back to school and finally get my PGA teacher certificate. During my studies I was so fortunate to find Mr. Hardy´s Plane Truth and it was such an eye opener that I booked the first Level 1 program I could find and it has completely changed my view of teaching and coaching.  I´m currently the head junior and elite ladies squad coach at Golfklubbur Reykjavikur, Iceland´s largest golf club, a 54 hole complex with a state of the art practice facility, with over 2.500 active members. Im hoping to expand on my Plane Truth experience and ad the Level 2 certificate as soon as possible.

Head Professional of Nesklubburinn in Iceland, the 5th largest golf club in the country with 650 members.

After growing up at the golf course and acting as assistant professional from 2006-2009 promotion to head professional happened in january 2010.  The job consists of coaching three junior club teams along with the club elite team. Additionally giving private lessons to club members.

Until the age of 25 soccer was the number one sport. Playing for youth national teams and after winning the Icelandic championship with KR Reykjavik in 1999 retirement followed in 2000 after a string of injuries. The love of the game of golf made that decision easier.

Since then golf has been partly and fully my profession. Still playing competitively and attending some mini tour events in Florida in the offseason.

I have been a Club Professional with the goal of helping people enjoy this wonderful game all my working life. I became PGA Qualified in 1980 and took up the post of Head professional at Petersfield Golf where I stayed for nearly 12 years. During this time along with my other duties I built a reputation for club making and custom fitting especially working with Persimmon. This culminated in being named European Club Maker of the year in 1992.

I then moved to Blackmoor, a course that has the reputation of being one of the finest in the South of England. Teaching has always been an important part of my job but since meeting Jim Hardy and Chris O’Connell has become the major focus of my life as a Professional. To be able to learn from the best in the world has provided me with the tools to help people of all ages and ability to improve beyond all recognition. As a coach you live and die with results. To receive such amazing feedback has for me been astounding and for me has been a life changing experience. To be able to turn around people who openly admit that they were going to quit the game for good is priceless.

I no longer use the dated “One swing fits all” mentality which worked for some people but actually made others worse. Instead lessons are focused on working with the swing the person already has by concentrating on improving ball flight and impact. The added bonus for me is that Golf Coaching has now become a journey of discovery that has made it really exciting and fun again.

I am really honoured to be part of the Plane Truth family and am proud to be endorsed as one of their Level 2 Coaches.

Teaching Philosophy

My GOAL is to empower students to be able to coach themselves, through:

  • Identifying the student's natural skills, then developing his/hers swing style around them
  • Relating the golf swing to other sports the student has played

When the student understands his/her personal swing style,  as well as how the techniques of other sports relate to golf, there is a greater understanding of the golf swing and why the ball behaves the way it does. The student can now begin to coach him/herself outside of a lesson.

“Knowledge without performance is just interesting.  Changing performance is exciting.”

Suellen has spent her life teaching….and learning…and gifting others.

Some may call it intuition backed by knowledge and experience. Suellen has a gift for connecting with students at the place where their beliefs and performance intersect; quickly getting to the most effective elements of not just what they do, but why they do what they do. Suellen then goes one step further by equipping them with new practice tools that translate to improved play.

As a Golf Professional… Suellen has been Head Professional at Peek & Peek Resort, Clymer, NY, Seven Springs Golf &CC, New Port Richey, FL, and Director of Golf at Bristol Harbour, Canandaigua, NY, and she has established golf schools at golf clubs and resorts in New York and Florida.

Always with teaching as her passion.

Currently Suellen spends winters as the teaching professional at The Club at Admiral’s Cove in Jupiter, FL. During summer months Suellen is the Director of Instruction and Curriculum at the Chautauqua Golf Learning Center, NY; a golf learning and development center which she helped create and establish.

As a player: Suellen played collegiate golf at Miami-Dade, played professionally on the WPGT and Futures golf tours distinguishing herself as the one player other professionals would ask for help with their game.

Playing but….Always with teaching as her passion.

As a result Suellen has coached over 10 LPGA professionals who together have 8 LPGA Tour victories.

As a performer: Singing professionally in groups and as a soloist, Suellen has performed onstage as the lead in musicals, and has directed church dramas and choir performances.
We can’t be sure but we think she holds the record for golf professionals singing at the weddings of LPGA Tour players! (4!)  Whether as Indiana Northrop in the “Finders of the Lost Arc” or as “Dorfina”: the Short Game expert, Suellen’s background in creative performance is an integral part of her teaching and clinics, conveying golf concepts with a memorable flair!

Performing …..Always with teaching as her passion.

As a coach: Suellen’s teaching includes the most valuable elements of a coach: evaluating, developing strategy, applying knowledge tempered with the wisdom of experience; working in partnership with her students as an agent of change and self-discovery.

Coaching …..Always with teaching as her passion. “Share the passion”.

Throughout Rod Thompson’s 44 years as a PGA Member, teaching the game has always been the greatest love and challenge. Never one to settle on one method, or a fixed way to teach the game Rod has spent countless hours with the best teachers in the world learning and refining his teaching philosophy.  He is always striving to find new and better ways to communicate thoughts, feelings, and techniques in order to produce a desired result. In 1990 Rod attended the Second PGA International Teaching and Coaching Summit in Nashville and had an opportunity to listen to a presentation by a teacher from Texas named Jim Hardy who has made such a dramatic influence on his teaching skills and philosophy of what works and why.  Rod is very proud to be a “Plane Truth Certified Instructor” and to call Jim Hardy currently #7 on the list of All Time Best Teachers and the PGA 2007 National Teacher of the Year a friend and mentor who has helped so many golf professionals around the world to play and teach the game at the highest level.

He started out in the golf business working at Pine Lake Country Club in Orchard Lake Michigan, at a very young age watching the Head golf Professional give lesson after lesson to players of all levels including numerous LPGA Major Champions.  Rod turned Professional at age 18 and became the First Assistant at Pine Lake for ten years before becoming the youngest Head Golf Professional and General Manager in the Detroit Metropolitan Area at Burning Tree Country Club in Mt. Clemens, Michigan in 1975.  In the fall of 1977 Rod moved to Bethesda, Maryland to become the Head Golf Professional at Kenwood Golf and Country Club a large 1500 member private club in the Washington DC area.  In a career at Kenwood that lasted 34 years Rod and his PGA and LPGA assistants had the opportunity to shape the swings and games of a few generations of golfers. Because of his knowledge and experience, Rod’s keen senses can diagnose faulty impacts and swing faults and create a plan to fix the players swing in a matter of minutes. Often he can watch one swing and tell what the student is thinking, when an instructor has the ability to change a students thinking, he can change the impact and ball flight, distance and direction of the players golf game.

Rod was one of the early pioneers in using computer technology in teaching and making it available on the practice tee for immediate visual understanding and feedback.  He started making his own line of Rt Customed Golf Clubs in 1986.  He was recognized by Titleist, as one of the country’s top club fitters 6 years in a row.  He has been named best Teachers in Maryland, by both Golf digest and Golf Magazine on numerous occasions.  He has given back to the game by serving on most every MAPGA committee that had to do with Teaching and Coaching. From the sections first summit in 2000 topics that he spoke about player psychology, club fitting, and served as the Chairman of this committee in 2009.

In addition he has served as the Section Junior Golf Chairman, Secretary, Vice President, and President.  He is the only living Middle Atlantic Section Two Time Golf Professional of the Year 1989 and 1991.  And an honor that he is so very proud of is being selected 1997 Teacher of the year and being nominated as the National Teacher of the Year in 2001. He was also nominated as the Horton Smith award winner in 2010 and Teacher of the year in 2012.

His community is very golf oriented, and he feels very fortunate to have had the opportunity to be actively involved in the growth of the game.

J.P. grew up outside of Philadelphia where he was exposed to the game at an early age.  He had the good fortune to grow up at Huntingdon Valley Country Club, where his father still resides as their Head Professional after 36 years.

Continuing education is a strong belief of J.P.’s.  He is currently one of only 215 PGA Professionals in the country who have achieved PGA Certification in multiple subject areas.  He is truly a student of the game and the business and looks to apply his knowledge of golf to make the game as enjoyable as he can for the players he serves.

With clubs that were a mismatched set of cut down hickory-shafted relics, Rocky started playing golf at age 8.  He was a four sport standout in high school, playing basketball, football, baseball and golf.  He was named as the best all-around athlete in his school’s history up to that time.  However golf rapidly became his passion. He started teaching golf lessons during summer vacation in his college years and has continued sharing his knowledge and love of the game with many students since that time.  Among his students is his wife, who began playing with a handicap of 40 and now has a single digit handicap.  Together they won the Colorado State Amateur Mixed Couples Championship.

Rocky competed at the highest levels in the Colorado State Amateurs, not missing a cut in 15 years.  He is also a former champion of the Country Club of Colorado in Colorado Springs.

Educated at the University of Iowa, Rocky earned a B.S. in Science and a D.D.S.  In addition to being a certified Level 1 Plane Truth instructor, he is a certified personal trainer via the Cooper Institute in Dallas, TX, focusing primarily in golf physical fitness programs.

Rocky is the only certified Level 1 instructor in the Greater Austin area.

Background

I am the only Plane Truth Certified instructor in the state of Missouri.  I am a lifetime student and teacher of the game of golf. I am convinced that the Plane Truth Golf method, understanding that great golf can be played with a one or two plane golf swing, is the single most important and effective teaching method in golf. It provides the teacher with many tools and options to help and improve the golf swing of a wide variety of students and players. In my opinion there is simply no other way to teach the golf swing.

Philosophy of Teaching

My goal as a teacher is to maximize the potential golf ball striking ability and golf playing ability of my students.
The foundation of that statement is in recognizing that “the sole purpose of the golf swing is to produce a correct, repetitive impact and the method employed is of no significance as long as it is repetitive.” If in doubt please see Lee Trevino, Jim Furyk and others.  Within that foundation is the belief that the next shot my students hit, after corrective input, will be a better golf shot. It is also my belief that the corrective input must be easily understood, applied and sustainable.

The key to teaching and motivating students is to show them the “how” and “why” of their golf swings so that they may own their golf swing and golf swing independence.

2010 Level One Instructor for Plane Truth Golf
2006 Best of Indy Golf Instructor Award by Indy Magazine
2004 – 2009 Top Instructor list by Golf Digest and Golf Magazine
2004 Indiana PGA Teacher of the Year

I am proud to be the first Plane Truth Certified Instructor in the State of Indiana.  Growing up in the state of Indiana, I came from a family of five boys; four of us are members of the PGA of America.  In high school, I played varsity basketball for 3 years and varsity golf for 4 years.  During my collegiate years, I played golf at Edison Community College in Ft. Myers, Florida and Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.

Married to my wife Sara for 33 years, we have two daughters, Ashley and Amber.  Ashley played four years for North Carolina where she was NCAA 1st Team All-American her senior year.  She is a past conditional member of the LPGA, and has been a two time champion and a member of the Duramed Futures Tour for the past 4 years.  She also was the winner of Golf Channel’s Big Break V - Hawaii.  Amber played college golf for the University of Washington, where the team finished in the top ten at the NCAA Championships 3 of her 4 years.  Amber is also a member of the Duramed Futures Tour for the past two years and placed third in Golf Channel’s Big Break X - Michigan.

Throughout my PGA professional career, I have been a staff instruction member and golf school coordinator of The John Jacobs’ Practical Golf Schools. I have been a Head Golf Professional in California, Texas, Arizona and Indiana.  I have also been the Director of Golf for Purdue University and coached the Men’s and Women’s golf teams. I’ve been associated with Jim Hardy since 1981, and gained a tremendous amount of knowledge over the years. I continue to learn every time I am with Jim, Mike LaBauve, Chris O’Connell, Rick Sellers and other Plane Truth Certified Instructors.

Loving the game of golf and being a golf professional for many years has provided me a great amount of excitement and personal satisfaction.  I have strived to wear the many hats that it takes to be a successful club professional.  In the past 20 plus years in the golf business, I have concentrated and focused on improving my teaching skills by studying, learning and watching two of the all time best golf instructors, John Jacobs and Jim Hardy.  Mentoring under John and Jim has laid a very solid foundation in my career as a teaching professional.  It has enabled me to communicate with all levels of golfers, adult, collegiate and juniors alike.  My experience with the John Jacobs’ Practical Golf Schools gave me the understanding that instruction should follow the system of Diagnosis, Explanation and Correction.  By watching, observing and spending time with Jim Hardy, I have increased my knowledge in both the 1 and 2 plane golf swings.   I feel that most golfers either never learn the true objectives of the swing in terms of club/ball impact, or increasingly overlook them in their concern with the particulars of the action.  Using the flight of the ball as evidence of how the club strikes the ball, each individual is forced back to the basic laws of impact, which is the only starting point for genuine and permanent improvement.

My background in teaching has enabled me to not only instruct, but also be a consultant in club fitting, course management, and fitness.  It enables me to coordinate individual plans for all levels ranging from the new golfer to the professional player.  Proper instruction, with an individual, or clinic/golf school setting, can develop good technique, touch and feel to ensure a clear picture for golfers to enjoy in the great game of golf.

From November thru April, Bob teaches at Estero Country Club at The Vines in Ft. Myers, FL.  He can be contacted at the same phone number listed in his profile.

I have played golf all my life and have a huge passion for this game and seeing others enjoy golf, improve their game and understand what it is they want and can do in golf. As a level 1 Plane Truth Certified Instructor, I want to teach the correct methods and get the true potential from all my students.

I believe that the Plane Truth has the only realistic methods to do just that, using these methods which are proven and make a whole lot of common sense when it comes to golf, and in particular the correct and repetitive impact of the golf ball, which is what we all aim to do at all levels of golf.

Having been involved in the First Tee program for kids, where the kids benefit by learning life skills, learning the core values, as well as the game of golf. To me it is important that golf continues to be a model sport for our future stars.

Based in Cyberjaya, just south of Kuala Lumpur where I teach golf, I also intend to help spread the Plane Truth of golf throughout Malaysia.

  • One year after taking up golf I became the number one player on my high school team which was at that time the largest school in the state.
  • Played college golf at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.
  • Won numerous local amateur and club championships.
  • One cold winter day I decided to go to Barnes and Noble to have a cup of hot coco and peruse some golf instruction books.  What a serendipitous find was The Plane Truth for Golfers Master Class, which of course was written by Jim Hardy.  After reading a couple of chapters, I decided  I had to have the book.  I realized I was a two planer whose downswing was incorrectly dominated by the shoulders, and I was best suited to be a one planer.  My ball striking became much more consistent, and I had to have more of Jim's instruction.  My decision to attend The Level One course in October of 2010 was spot on; the course changed forever the way I teach.  To have Jim Hardy and Chris O'Connell work with me on my ball striking was an experience I will never forget.  I truly believe all golfers need to at least consider taking advantage of Jim's vast knowledge of the numerous viable golf swings.

SteveIngham1 Photo Head PGA Teaching ProfessionalBowlee Park Golf Range   ManchesterEngland My name is Steve Ingham and Im the Head Teaching Professional at Bowlee Park Golf Range. I've worked at Bowlee for nearly ten years and have worked up through the ranks to the position I hold now.

I started playing golf at 12 years old and was instantly hooked. I quickly joined Blackley Golf Club and played to a single figured handicap by the age of 15.

From the age of 16 I knew that a career in golf was where my future lay. I became the Assistant Professional at Blackley and moved from their to Bowlee when I was 19.

I worked through the PGA Degree under the guidence of John Slinger & Brad Jordan gaining full election to the PGA in 2007. Since then I've set about learning as much about the golf swing as possible. The swing has always fascinated me and I knew I always wanted to be a coach much more than a player.

My coaching background comes from hours of research; seminars, physical practice, residentials, & playing to understand the mental and physical actions needed to swing the golf club.

Recently I qualified as a level 1 Plane truth instructor.  This, alongside the use of video analysis has enabled me to offer golfers of varied abilities the simpliest methods to achieve a correct and repetative impact.  I aim to complete my level 2 as soon as possible.

A member of the PGA since September 1994 Pol Montano, Head Golf Professional at Boone Valley Golf Club, located in the picturesque wine country near Augusta, Missouri. Pol was named 2009 Teacher of the Year of the Gateway Section.

I have a passion for exploring ways to continuously improve my teaching methods.  I try to keep an open mind regarding instruction, and to surround myself with people that can help me reach my goals as an instructor.  Jim Hardy and Stan Utley have both helped make it possible for me to reach my goal in becoming a better teacher, of the swing and of the game.  I have great confidence that I’m able to improve anyone’s golf game, because of my profound understanding of the golf swing.  The lessons I’ve learned from my mentors have made teaching fun for my students and me.

I believe if a golf swing is breaking down, it's either too steep or too shallow.  Each swing has different fundamentals and nearly opposite swing shape.  Pol works with each student to understand the principles and fundamentals of the swing that fits them specifically.  Then, by working only on the elements that apply to that student, their game cannot help but improve.

I am a golf coach that strives to make students the best players they can be. I build long term relationships with my students and teach them how to play every aspect of the game. Every player has their own personal swing which produces certain ball flights.  My job is to help the student understand their ball flight and how to fix it to be correct and repetitive. Through the use of video, teaching aids, and drills I teach the student to learn how a good motion will produce a consistent and repeatable impact and how to transfer that motion to the course.

I started playing golf when I was 11 and had a scratch handicap by the time I was 16. Until I finished university I had a very good amateur record, the highlight of which was reaching the semi-finals of the Scottish Boys Championship in 1981 and the quarter finals in 1982. I then had to make a decision on whether to embark on a career in professional golf or go for the “safer” option of a career in Information Technology. I went for the safe and easy option.

Well into my thirties I realized that something was missing and that I had unfulfilled ambitions. That is when I decided to bite the bullet and do my professional golf education. In 2004 I finally became a real golf professional and spent the next few years teaching the game I love. I had moderate success with teaching but it was something that was becoming increasingly frustrating, as the swing I was teaching would work beautifully for some people and be a complete disaster for others. I could not figure out what I was doing wrong, so I scoured the internet looking for the “truth” about the golf swing. That is where I discovered Jim Hardy and The Plane Truth. As soon as I started reading the stuff about The Plane Truth and watched the DVDs, alarm bells started ringing and I was distressed to realize that I had been teaching everybody one set of fundamentals, when, in fact, there are two. The differences between the one-plane and the two-plane golf swings are tremendous. I also realized that I had purely been concentrating on building “nice” swings instead of dealing with the real issues like improving impact and ball flight immediately. I therefore decided to get myself Plane Truth Certified as quickly as possible and haven’t looked back since. The Certification course was fantastic and I started applying the Plane Truth principles to all my lessons with immediate success with virtually all of my pupils.

The Plane Truth has also helped my own game tremendously, so much so that I intend to go to Qualifying School for the European Seniors Tour in 2014.

Several years of teaching, playing, and researching led me to Jim Hardy. As a teacher for 20 plus years and a TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) Certified instructor, I have found solid answers within Plane Truth golf instruction. Not only are there answers, there are quality results. I look forward to helping others who are on their journey to better golf. As the Head Golf Professional at Westborough CC, I am fortunate to share this knowledge with all my students.

me off learning about the golf swing, I then was introduced to it again
when I was Director of Golf at Wentworth and Duncan Woolgar ( now PT

seen. I was time I went back to school and learned for myself.

I started to play golf at age 8. My father introduced me to this beautiful game and I got hooked pretty fast. But I liked a lot of sports as a kid and it took many years before I seriously get involved in golf. I started to work as a computer programmer but felt i wanted to be closer to golf and coaching. When i started to read Jim Hardy's first book i was shocked, it was like a wake-up call, Information which was sorted and it has helped me in teaching and in my improvement as a golf player. Thank you so much for writing this book. I want to learn more and are hopefully going for the level 2 class when i can afford it and feel ready.

“Jim Hardy and Chris O’Connell gave me more understanding of impact than any other instructor to this day. It is now a pleasure to pass this on to my students, who quite simply enjoy an improved and more repetitive shot pattern”

It’s an honor to be the first Plane Truth Certified Instructor in the state of North Carolina.  During my career in the golf business I’ve had the good fortune to learn from and observe some outstanding instructors who have had great influence on how I teach the game including my mentor and first instructor in golf Mike Abbott.

I grew up in Dallas, TX playing and loving the game and I’ve always had a desire to learn as much as possible about the history of golf as well as different teaching philosophies.  Through my research and studying of the game, I’ve developed a teaching philosophy that continues to evolve.  It’s my goal to form partnerships with my students and to help them not only learn about their swing but also how to play the game more effectively and for greater enjoyment.

The Plane Truth philosophies fall very much in line with what I value in teaching the game of golf.  It’s most important to me to work with the natural abilities and assets that each student possesses and enhance them in order to improve the student’s overall game.

Thanks to Jim Hardy and Chris O’Connell, I am a teaching professional at Taos Country Club in northern New Mexico.

Searching for answers in my own struggling game led me to Plane Truth Golf.  What a relief it was to hear Jim talk about there being two sets of fundamentals for the golf swing.  I took this information and applied it to my swing.  My game elevated quickly and I was able to become part of The PGA of America.  A dream realized thanks to knowing the differences between the One-plane and the Two-plane swing.

Not all golfers are looking to turn professional, but whatever their goal is, we can get there.

Al considers becoming affiliated with Jim Hardy and his teaching philosophies a great professional honor.  Jim’s approach to the golf swing and his ability to produce a correct repetitive impact for his students is second to none.  As a Plane Truth instructor, it is Al’s job to understand what makes each one of his student’s swing work, and clearly communicate what is necessary to quickly and simply neutralize their impact.

As an amateur player I struggled with my golf game for several years. Some days I will be ON and score well and other days I was completely OFF. Not knowing what had changed. I had clubs in my bag that I could hit well almost every time and clubs I couldn't rely upon. I thought I had to swing differently with every club and got very confused and my playing got worst.

I learned of Jim Hardy in 2007 and finally understood The Plane Truth! Jim Hardy and The Plane Truth teaching professionals helped me understand my ball flights and impacts. Through a simple approach from the bottom-up, I was taught how to hit all clubs in my bag with the same swing.

I want to bring this information to other golf players wishing to improve their game. Through a simple approach you'll be making solid contact and hitting the next ball better.

At the same time I'll give you the opportunity to sign up for a State of the Art, take home and carry with you 24/7, personal swing analysis. It's like having your own personal coach with you at all times.
